Commercial Kitchen

Current Kitchen Facilities

In the summer of 2014, the Jane K. Lowe Foundation awarded the HICLC a $20,000 grant as seed money to begin renovating for the onsite commercial kitchen. In order to serve more students, the center MUST have a larger space to prepare meals & teach cooking classes

In compliance with Health Code standards, meals are currently being prepared by individual volunteers in their own homes, and transported to the Learning Center to be dispersed. Once funded, the commercial kitchen will replace the present food provision facilities, and allow a substantial increase in the Center’s capacity to actually prepare and serve the students in-house. The kitchen would spearhead our next phase of development, wherein the Center aims to construct dormitory type dwellings to host up to 100 children, four days per week. The current workspace to provide meals allows the Center to feed a maximum of 40 children one meal per day. A commercial kitchen would allow workspace and equipment to prepare two meals a day in-house for more than 100 children and more than 30 additional support staff volunteers.
